Who am I?
Hello, I’m Georgina, I’m a stay at home Mum and I’m vegan. And I’m also very tired. Well, shattered actually. Tired but very happy.
So what else? Well, I really enjoy cooking. I have days when I can’t be bothered, but overall I love dishing up good food for my family to eat. I’m interested in everyday cooking. Things that can be made fairly easily, cooked in bulk, frozen in portions and meals that do not cost a fortune. And cakes too. Lots of cake.
Why blog about it?
I became vegan in 2008. I didn’t make the change gradually. I just decided this was for me. I knew what I needed to cut out of my diet but I had no idea what to replace them with. Of course, the internet was the most valuable source for me, and this blog is here to store all that information in one place. Hopefully it might make it easier for others making the change.
How does this site work then?
All the recipes on this site are totally vegan.
Not all recipes will be a success and I’ll be sharing my failures as well. Sometimes I use or alter recipes taken from other blogs, sites and books and I will always give credit to them where possible. Other times, I just make recipes up and can’t even remember how much stuff I put in. Hopefully you’ll be happy with vague instructions such as ‘a handful’, ‘a bit of’; after all it’s about having fun and giving it a go. I don’t have the patience to write down everything as I do it…I’m usually far too hungry for that.
Also, please, please let me know your tried and tested vegan recipes. Whether you are already vegan, thinking of converting or scarier still, having a vegan over for dinner, then I hope this site has something to help you on your merry way.
Why did I go vegan?
I’ve been vegetarian for over twenty years and had toyed with the idea of being vegan for a while. But it was becoming a Mum that made me decide to cut out all animal products from my diet completely and in January 2008 I went vegan.
Breastfeeding my daughter was such a wonderful experience and it started me thinking…surely cows milk was meant for baby cows? Yeah I know, hardly rocket science, but questioning the true cost of our food, can lead to some uncomfortable answers. And boy are the facts shocking.
I won’t go into all the details here, there are plenty of sites that do that far better than I could. So, if you are interested, and I hope you are since you’ve got this far, then check out Viva and Milk Myths. And if you’re still here after that, then thank you, and I hope you enjoy keeping up to date with my kitchen antics.
Hi George!
Love what you have done here! And am considering doing a site myself… ‘vegan recipes’, for people that only eat vegans! Hope you are doing well and are happy. Get on the facebook so we can have a proper chin wag!
Best to you and the family – Jamie
Hi George
Your site is great, i do however have one small non animal bone to pick with you though….. if you have been a vegan since jan 2008 and this chocolate cake is so GREAT, why pray tell has none of it graced my lips hu ? !!! Lova ya
Hi George, had a proper look at you web site and I think its great. At the moment I work as a kitchen assistant and there are cooks above me who cook the main meals, but as i have learned a little from my daughter who has recently become vegan, I have taken the initiative and sometimes offer to make the daily vegan option, which has been very successful and appreciated by those who are generally not adequatly catered for. Most of the recipes have come from your site. so big thanks and well done. Moolie
Hi there!
I haven’t become vegan, and I’m not a veggie either (shoot me) but recently I had the idea of baking some cakes for our school’s Autumn Fayre. And seeing as quite a few of us are vegan, they tend to miss out on the delights of other people’s tasty cakes. So I decided to look for a way to make cakes that are tasty but also vegan. Love the site, may refer to it a lot in future!
Hi George, wonderful blog! I like your approach to cooking – it’s very similar to mine. Often far too hungry to write things down and then kick myself later when I can’t recreate something. Anyway, keep up the good work
Hi Georgina …nice site…I have read your kind comments on your front page and…aw… shucks you made me blush….you’re not so bad yourself…. xx
Hi George, love your site, I put a link to it on my Facebook, hope you don’t mind!
Hi George! At last another person who is in the same predicament as me! I too am the only vegan in my house! I have two children one boy aged 8yrs and a little girl who’s nearly 2yrs. My husband is a meat eater and although I’ve tried to convert him it hasn’t worked so far! I find as long as I don’t mention the word ‘vegan’ they tend to eat it!! Tried your chocolate chip muffin recipe today hopefully they will be a hit!! Thank you for helpful recipes! My daughter usuallly eats mostly the same as me but my son is very fussy so I end up having to cook 3 different meals every night! It would be so much easier if they were all vegan!!

Hey George!
Great site! And it’s got me wondering about the Indian dairy industry, as they regard the cow as sacred and drink loads of milk???!!!
Hello St. George,-)),
I love your site- my son is extremely allergic (all dairy: milk and eggs) so I am grateful for nutritious flexible, easy and child/parent friendly recipe ideas. Keep at it & THANKS!
Good luck with the site, and respect to a fellow vegan, the animals need people like us- we are their only hope. xxx
